midwives@ethiopia is a small organisation partnering with Ethiopian midwives and other HCPs in rural Ethiopia. We work in SNNPR in the South of the country and have been running an effective programme since 2009.
Our focus is on strengthening existing health services through training programmes for midwives and Health Extension Workers. Our initiatives are effective as they work at grass roots level and involve staff and services and we work in partnership with communities.
Additionally we work with rural Health Centres on raising standards to encourage more women to birth in a Health facility rather than at home without a skilled birth attendant. We use a variety of interventions to support HEWs in their teaching including Picture Cards and the sourcing of supplies to improve healthcare standards at Health Centres.
Our work is evaluated six monthly and annually by the local Health Office to ensure our work is relevant to the local population.
