Salamatu Umar is a passionate Nurse-Midwife and a Lecturer in the Department of Nursing Sciences, Kaduna State University, Kaduna, Nigeria. She holds an MSc in Maternal and Child Health Nursing (Midwifery, 2025), a Bachelor of Nursing Science (2015) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (2023) from Kaduna State University.
She is a licensed Registered Nurse (2015), Registered Midwife (2017), and Registered Public Health Nurse (2022), all awarded by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. Her deep commitment to improving maternal and child health outcomes has shaped her academic and professional journey.
Salamatu currently coordinates the Paramedic Program at the Institute of Science, Technology and Management Studies, while also serving as the Clinical Coordinator in the Department of Nursing Sciences at Kaduna State University. She has played a key role in both academic and clinical training, with teaching and coordination roles in maternal health, emergency, and disaster nursing education.
Her professional service includes acting as a council examiner for general nursing and midwifery (2020, 2021, 2024), and as a local examiner for midwifery (2025). She has also contributed as a part-time lecturer across various institutions, enhancing learning through both classroom teaching and hands-on clinical mentorship.
Known for her leadership in curriculum development and strategic planning within nursing education, Salamatu has authored articles in peer-reviewed, high-impact journals and has presented scholarly work at national and international conferences.
