
Rowsan Ara is the National Midwifery Officer at UNFPA Bangladesh, where she plays a pivotal role in advancing the midwifery as an independent profession in collaboration with the Government of Bangladesh. She has 22 years of experience in nursing and midwifery as a clinical practitioner and faculty, both private and public sector. Her academic journey includes graduation in Nursing from Dhaka University, MSc in Nursing with a focus on Child Health and a master’s in public health from Bangabandhu Shekh Mujib Medical University.
Rowsan Ara served as a Community Health Nurse at the Community Nursing Center (CNC) in Mugda, Dhaka, under the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) project. She actively participated in the Capacity Building Program for the Establishment of NIANER in Bangladesh, organized by KOICA at Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea. Since 2020, She has been dedicatedly working as a Faculty Member for the Introductory Course on Palliative Care for Humanitarian Health Workers in Cox’s Bazar.
Recently, she completed a three-month certificate course on Climate Change and Health at Dhaka University. Her profound interest lies in understanding the intersection of climate change and sexual and reproductive health, particularly in the context of Bangladesh’s vulnerability to climate change impacts.
She contributed to reviewing existing curricula and development of modules on climate change and health for nurses and midwives to ensure the integration of climate change content into nursing and midwifery curricula across Bangladesh.
Rowsan is married with two children and lives in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
