Professor Allison Cummins is the Head of Midwifery at the University of Newcastle, Australia. Allison’s research is focussed on scaling up midwifery continuity of care models. Her research in enabling new graduate midwives to transition directly to working in midwifery continuity of care has had impact in Australian maternity services. A product of this research is a new graduate transitional workshop to continuity of care models that is being implemented in health services. Recently, her research focus has shifted to ensuring women with perinatal mental health conditions, such as anxiety and depression, can access a known midwife throughout their pregnancy, birth and the early parenting period. On an international level, Allison is a steering committee member for the international Quality Maternal Newborn Care Research Alliance with over 1,000 members. She is an Associate Editor of the midwifery journal “Women and Birth International” (WOMBI), the number one journal for midwifery.
