
PORTIA SHANDUKA RN, RM, BSc Nursing (ZOU), Masters Nursing (Advanced Midwifery & Neonatology (SMU)c. A Zimbabwean nurse, midwife, feminist, humanitarian, counsellor and clinical educator recently migrated to England. I am currently a Bedfordshire Branch Committee member – Advocate for Internationally recruited midwives. I began as a general nurse for three years then 15 years in clinical midwifery plus seven years in faculty. My work experience spans from Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Nigeria and India. In 2014, I participated in ICM Delphi Surveys for midwifery core competencies. I was a presenter in VIDM 2018 and a facilitator in VIDM 2023. In India I presented virtually in Joint Event with University of Birmingham-International Day of the midwife 2021. I published a Poem entitled ‘What ifs of Women’s Rights’ in the Sexual and Reproductive Health Journal in December in 2021. In Nigeria I pioneered Community Sexual and Reproductive Health program to reach out and enhance contraception uptake and Fathers Engagement in 2019. At Paray School of Nursing in Lesotho from 2014 to 2017. I was instrumental in designing micro-curriculum tools of the Competency – based Midwifery curriculum. I also participated in Lesotho Council of Higher Education development of Midwifery Program and Accreditation Tools as well as in Lesotho Nursing Council Midwifery Standards and Competencies.
