Uganda is one of the poorest countries in the world (WFP, 2016). The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) has been twinned with the Uganda Private Midwives Association since 2012.
MOMENTUM is a twinning project, funded by UK-Aid, which aims to support the Ugandan Nurses and Midwives Council to develop national standards for midwifery mentorship, to design a module to train midwives as mentors and to improve standards of mentorship in four clinical pilot sites. MOMENTUM is fully supported by the Ugandan Ministry of Health. Our presentation will explore the realities of long-term partnerships and evaluate the implementation and results of the MOMENTUM project.
This project adds to the body of knowledge on midwifery twinning utilising individual, institutional, face-to-face and virtual twinning models. It also informs those developing standards and education programmes for mentors. It adds to knowledge on action and reflection in midwifery.
