
Megan Koontz is the President, Dean, and a Core Faculty member at the Midwives College of Utah (MCU), one of the largest CPM midwifery schools in the USA. With over a decade of experience in undergraduate and graduate education, she specializes in online pedagogy and curriculum development and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Instructional Design.
Originally from New Zealand, Megan earned her Bachelor of Midwifery in 2001 before relocating to the United States in 2005. She holds a Master of Midwifery with a research focus on midwifery sustainability. Megan is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and has held licenses in both Alaska and California, with clinical experience spanning home births, birthing centers, and hospitals.
In addition to her academic leadership, Megan has been a board member for the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council (MEAC) and has also previously served as the Treasurer for the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives (NACPM). Megan enjoys researching and speaking; her recent work includes publications on integrating Generative Artificial Intelligence into midwifery education and on advocating for increased medication access for low-risk childbearing families. She currently resides in Anchorage, Alaska.
