Lynnelle is an experienced midwife who has worked across various midwifery practice settings and models of care, most recently as part of a Midwifery Group Practice within a publicly funded home birth program. She is deeply passionate about midwifery and dedicated to working in genuine partnership with birthing women and people, providing care that is individualised and aligned with their unique hopes and needs.
In 2016, after witnessing the negative impact of working within fragmented healthcare systems on midwives, Lynnelle founded the VaJournal Club. Based in Melbourne, Australia, the VaJournal Club aims to foster connection and community among midwives, bringing together midwives from diverse practice settings to engage in thoughtful discussions on emerging midwifery research, share knowledge and experiences, seek positive solutions, and explore ways to reclaim midwifery both individually and collectively. Now in its 9th year, VaJournal Club’s monthly gatherings (co-facilitated by the wonderful Madeline Hawke) create an inclusive and welcoming space for meaningful conversations and the sharing of midwifery insights & wisdom. Recently, Lynnelle joined The Assembly of Rebellious Midwives team, where she co-presents VaJournal Club with Dr. Melanie Jackson in an online setting, further expanding the club’s reach and impact.
Lynnelle is currently undertaking a PhD to explore the impact of professional connections and relationships on midwives’ wellbeing and career sustainability. In addition to her community work, midwifery research and activism, Lynnelle lectures in midwifery at the Australian Catholic University, where she supports and guides the next generation of midwifery students as they embark on their journey towards this profoundly impactful profession.
