Jo Lethermon is a Doctor of Nursing Practice student at Georgetown University studying Women’s Health and Midwifery with an anticipated graduate date of May 17th 2024. She is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a wife to her loving husband Michael, and a bonus mom to their daughter Zariyah. She considers this work a “calling” and truly enjoys preventative health care, family planning, and birth. In her new role, she hopes to do work that will remove the stigma surrounding being open and communicative about sexual and feminine health; practice with listening at the top of her list of values followed by shared decision making; create a safe space for ethnically, culturally, and gender diverse individuals seeking care; and teach patients about their bodies giving them the tools that they need to make informed decisions for themselves. Her professional goals include active involvement in policy that will help to implement evidence-based practice changes in her native state and improve the conditions of maternal health. Eventually, she hopes to open her own collaborative wellness center for women’s health and education. She currently serves on three community boards: Friends of the Birth Center of Baton Rouge, The Louisiana Leadership Institute, and the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors. She is a student member of The National Black Midwives Association (NBMA), NPWH, and ACNM. In her spare time, she enjoys crocheting, live music, and spending time with God and family.
