
Prof. Hayat Gommaa is a Full Professor at Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria. She earned her PhD from Cairo University, Egypt, in 1998 and has extensive international research and capacity development experience across Egypt, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Jordan, the UK, Libya, and Nigeria. She previously served as Head of the Nursing Science Department at Ahmadu Bello University and is currently the postgraduate program coordinator.
Prof. Gommaa has held leadership roles as Chairperson of the Maternal and Child Health Nursing Departments at both Mut’ah University, Jordan, and Cairo University. She also directed the Educational Development Centre at Cairo University and was Assistant Manager of the Manpower Development Project for Nurses in Egypt’s Ministry of Health.
She actively contributes to maternal, adolescent, and child healthcare initiatives in Nigeria and is an executive member of related projects. She reviews for the International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics and serves as the Northern Nigerian ambassador to the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Care Foundation. She also consults for the USAID Integrative Reproductive Health Services Project.
Additionally, she has played key roles in curriculum development for midwifery and community health education through WHO and JSI projects. She has received multiple awards in Egypt and Nigeria for research excellence and has published extensively in her field. She also holds a recognition certificate from the Journal of Pediatric Nursing.
