
Dr. Esther Oluwatoyin Famutimi is a distinguished Nigerian nurse researcher, educator, and healthcare leader specializing in Maternal and Child Health Nursing. She serves as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at North-West University, South Africa, and as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Dr. Famutimi began her nursing career at University College Hospital, Ibadan, as a Nursing Officer I in 2007, rising to Deputy Director of Nursing in 2023, contributing to healthcare management, clinical supervision, and nursing capacity development. She holds a Bachelor of Nursing Science degree from the University of Ibadan(2006), a Master’s in Maternal and Child Health Nursing (2014), and a PhD in the same field(2023). Dr. Famutimi also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Obafemi Awolowo University (2025), showcasing her interdisciplinary approach to healthcare leadership. She’s a Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Nurses and Midwives and a memberof Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, with significant contributions to nursing research and policy development.
Her research focuses on maternal and newborn health, emergency obstetric care, reproductive health, and strengthening health systems/policies. She has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and participates in international
research collaborations, including the Newborn Essential Solutions and Technologies (NEST360) project. Her work aims to improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes, strengthen healthcare systems, and mentor the next generation of nursing scholars and healthcare leaders.
