Claire Wood
Claire Wood is a practising clinical midwife in the UK who has worked the majority of her 35 years on a consultant-led Labour Ward. Claire became increasingly concerned for healthcare workers’ welfare in the workplace and commenced, as part of a PhD, an Insider Participatory Action Research study in 2018. The qualitative study aimed to explore how clinical and non-clinical colleagues on the Labour Ward can find paths towards enhancing their individual and collective wellbeing. Preliminary findings focus on the factors which healthcare workers report as influencing their wellbeing, and to the impact of the study as related to the methodology. Claire was supported in the study by funding from the Royal College of Midwives Ruth Davies Research Bursary 2018 and from Fellowship funding from the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education, Kingston University and St George’s University of London, UK.
