
Alys Einon worked clinically as a delivery suite midwife before moving into her role teaching and researching Midwifery. She spent 19 years developing and implementing midwifery education and innovation programmes, as Associate Professor of Midwifery, followed by a brief period as an LME and Programmes Lead. As an advocate for woman- and person-centred midwifery care and practice, she has written and published about inclusive practice and education, and has been part of NMC Consultations into EDI issues, and developed a range of inclusive education resources and projects. She is the Creator of Centred Birth Hypnobirthing, and provided free online hypnobirthing classes during the pandemic, researching the impact of Covid19 on the experience of pregnancy and birth.
Alys was Departmental Research Lead during her time at Swansea University, supporting colleagues to develop their scholarly activity, apply for research funding, and write for publication. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the Practising Midwife Journal, supporting authors to publish practice-focused work. Her research focuses on midwifery education, inclusive practice, human rights, feminism, midwifery history and spirituality, and on midwifery narratives.
She is a PhD supervisor and an author. She has published four books, 22 book chapters, 38 Journal Articles and given 45 Conference and Other presentations. She now works for the University of Dundee, as Senior Lecturer for Student Support, and Senior Advisor of Studies, in the School of Health Sciences, and is working on two further edited collections for Demeter Press and writing her third novel.
