This presentation will discuss the research around and experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) parents accessing perinatal care. The LGBT community are a minority in our society that experience inequality in healthcare. Parents from the LGBT community may face discrimination and innappropriate care during this very important time of their lives. The presentation will cover understanding labels and pronouns (including trans and non-binary) and why this matters in perinatal care, methods of conceiving and when it is relevant to know, feeding methods including induced lactation, chestfeeding and using an supplementary nursing system (SNS) and how you can support parents. I hope to help midwives, students, doulas and others who are interested come away with practical information and tools to help them ensure their practice is respectful and acknowledges the unique experience that LGBT parents have of perinatal care. Interaction and discussion will be welcomed.
