Students’ evaluations of their clinical learning revealed that they experience theory- practice discrepancies related to the use of the partogram. This theory-practice incongruence was confirmed in a 2013, South African study on student midwives’ self -perceptions related to their competency in plotting the partogram.
Strengthening of Simulation based learning to bridge the theory –practice gap as well as improvement of the clinical learning environment to strengthen students support from professional midwives is recommended.
