Charlene ColeBetter Births, the report of the National Maternity Review, found that some women were receiving good continuity in their maternity care and relationships, and some women were not. The Better Births initiative recommended that continuity of carer should be rolled out to as many women as possible, with trusts across the UK implementing various caseloading and relationship-based models in order to facilitate this. Continuity of carer in maternity has been shown to lead to better outcomes and safety for the woman and baby, as well as offering a more positive and personal experience; and was the single biggest request ofwomen of their services that was heard during the Review (NHS 2017).

The aim of this student cafe is to generate debate surrounding the implementation of Better Births from a student’s perspective, and also to find out how continuity of carer is achieved in other parts of the world, if at all.
